Introductory CourseThis introduction workshop is an enriching experience for people who work or would like to work with children, adolescents or adults and who wish to enhance their practice through art.On both days participants will create an artwork and be introduced step by step to the concepts involved in art therapy. Saturday has an emphasis on realistic work such as things we can see in our environment, while Sunday focuses on abstract pictures. Both days also provide an overview of the practical application of the concepts to the workplace. Pre-reading will be e-mailed to registrants. One Year Certificate Training ProgramThis intensive art therapy training course offers students, in a group of about 6-12 people, an extensive opportunity to experience and learn a range of verbal and non verbal art therapy approaches and therapeutic interventions used in different educational and clinical settings. The focus will be the work with unconscious processes and how they can be utilised in combination with evidence-based practices. Participants can expect to be exposed to experiences that may stimulate their emotions and offer opportunities for self-disclosure.The spiritual component of the training focuses on mindfulness, inner peace and compassion. Accessing the body's wisdom and creative intelligence are core goals of the teaching. Art Therapy Course ContentThe Certificate Training Program is a qualification for people who work or wish to work in a professional capacity in the field of art therapy. The course is highly experiential, academically rigorous and practice-oriented. Students are provided with a solid theoretical and ethical base upon which to practise as an art therapist. The course is suitable for people from a wide variety of professional backgrounds who require greater competency in the skill, knowledge and methodology of counselling and art therapy and its application in practice. The student experience is divided into three integrated but distinctive areas:Theory Based on an eclectic/integrated framework including interventions from a psychodynamic, humanistic, spiritual and cognitive behavioural perspective. Experience Involves experiential learning about the therapeutic relationship and group processes; giving an ability to reflect intensively on the self and the dynamics of the group, as well as the ability to situate learning in a personal and career context. Practice Opportunity to show how well modules are understood. Course duration The introduction is available as a one or two day course with the option to additionally undertake the full year training program consisting of 10 weekends over two semesters. Course outcomes Participants who satisfactorily complete all the course modules will receive a certificate. Note: This course does not offer personal therapy and is not a formal degree. Admission criteria You should be over 21 years of age and have some training or experience in psychological theory or practice (paid or voluntary), such as counselling, welfare, social work, occupational therapy, nursing, medical practice or teaching. Admission to the year course requires that you have participated in the two introductory days. No prior skills in art or psychotherapy required.
